PHOTOGRAPHIC DOCUMENTARY MAP

OF THE PERIPHERY IN ISTRIA.

SELF PUBLISHED 2020.

IN COLLABORATION WITH

FALK LENNART KREMZOW.

PERIPHERY. SURROUNDING AREA. OUTSKIRTS OF THE CITY. PERCEPTIONS THAT EVOKE ASSOCIATIONS WITH LIFE IN RURAL REGIONS. SUN-DRENCHED STRETCHES OF ENDLESS GREEN? ISOLATED FROM AN URBANIZED WORLD?NOTICEABLE IN THE CUT CONNECTIONS TO LOCAL CENTERS.

WHAT IS LIFE LIKE IN THE DECENTRALIZED PERIPHERY, IN THE SURROUNDINGS OF URBAN REALITY? IN THE SOUND OF MOTORIZED INDIVIDUAL TRAFFIC, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SILENT, NOSTALGIC-LOOKING STOPS?

THE PHOTO DOCUMENTATION ›ČEKATI | WAITING – TWENTYSIX BUS STOPS – ABOUT LIFE IN THE PERIPHERY‹ CAPTURES MOMENTS. RECORDED IN SPRING 2019, THE PHOTOGRAPHIC CARTOGRAPHY APPROACHES THE DIFFERENT PERCEPTIONS OF THE PLACE IN A DOCUMENTARY AND CONCEPTUAL WAY. WITH AN ITERATIVE PHOTO CONCEPT, THE OBSERVATIONS ARE PRESENTED ANALYTICALLY AND POETICALLY AT ONCE. THE ORDER OF THE 26 BUS STOPS CORRESPONDS TO THE ORDER OF DISCOVERY. THE LOCATION CHOSEN ARBITRARILY. A FASCINATION WITH SIMPLE CONSTRUCTION, THE LOCATIONS, THE AESTHETICS OF DECAY AND NECESSARY USE.
